This is an unusual role, requiring all of the strengths of a talented senior school leader with a clear picture of outstanding practice, alongside the track record (or clear potential) to be able to add the CEO responsibilities to your role within a relatively short period. While your first year in post will have a school focus, you will begin to develop an increasingly active and informed role in the leadership of the MAT, working closely in partnership with Trustees and our present CEO as she tapers her commitment over the period. The intention is that you will take on the CEO role during your second year in post, retaining the role of Headteacher at Fulford School.
Candidates will have had substantial experience as a Headteacher, Associate Headteacher or well-established Deputy Headteacher with whole-school responsibility and a strong track record. You must have held a senior position in a high-performing school, and have gained a deep understanding of the value of stakeholder relationships in the local education ecosystem. Strong candidates will also bring experience of systems leadership through providing school to school improvement support, cross-phase working or via school inspection.
You must be an outstanding classroom practitioner, able to model and lead improvement in teaching and learning by example; but we would also expect significant strengths in curriculum and performance management. You’ll also relish the opportunity to engage with informed and involved parents and local community (as well as a very effective and motivated SLT) to continue our trajectory of achievement.
Leadership calibre is non-negotiable. We expect that you’ll have a clear and positive educational philosophy, underpinned by strong personal moral purpose. In addition to your demonstrable success as a teacher and school leader, you need to evidence your capacity to take on the complexities of working at system level, including governance, compliance and the requirements of being Chief Accounting Officer. Trust-wide improvement will also be a feature of the role, so your ability to develop and deliver strategic improvement plans will be important. Working with the CEO in the first period of your appointment will support you in developing experience in these areas.
